The minimum amounts for pensions and remunerations, and the state social security benefits are to increase on 1 January 2025

Clients will receive the recalculated minimum amounts for pensions (old-age, disability and survivors' pensions paid for the current month) and minimum insurance indemnity from the State Social Insurance Agency (SSIA) already in January.

State social security benefits (SSSB) and survivor's pensions paid for the previous month - January - will be paid by the SSIA in February.

Please note:

• for the current month survivor's pensions granted until 31 December 2020 and which are in continuous payment will be paid;
• for the previous month survivor's pensions granted from 1 January 2021 will be paid.

State social security benefit

Minimum monthly amount:

• for old age – 166 euros;

• in the event of loss of breadwinner ,for the child up to the age of seven – 189euros, from the age of seven – 226 euros.

The amount of the SSSB for persons with disabilities of groups 1 and 2 is, as before, conditional on employment - non-working recipients receive an added allowance.

Impact of the size of the SSSB on other services of the SSIA

• State social benefit for a Chernobyl NPP accident survivor and the family of a deceased person who participated in the emergency response of the Chernobyl NPP accident – 166 euros per month.
• Funeral allowance in case of death of the family member that was dependant on the insured person – 498 euros (3 x 166) if the insured person's dependant died on or after 1 January.
• Funeral allowance in the case of death of an unemployed person – 498 euros (3 x 166), if the unemployed person died on or after 1 January.
• Compensation for damage (for accidents at work before 1 January 1997) for persons who have been awarded the SSSB is 166 euros per month.
• Amount of the unemployment benefit is set at 60% of twice the amount of the SSSB (60% of 332 euros), and will be paid at the new rate for the period of unemployment from 1 January.

Survivor's pension or remuneration for the loss of the breadwinner

Minimum monthly amount per child:

• from birth to age 7 – 189 euros
• from the age of 7 – 226 euros.

Old-age pension

The minimum amount is determined by applying a ratio of 1.2 to the minimum old-age pension base (189 euros, for persons with disabilities since childhood – 226 euros) for each following year which exceeds the required pensionable service (20 years) necessary for the allocation of the old-age pension, by increasing the amount by two percent from the minimum old-age pension calculation base.

If the person's pensionable service in Latvia is:

• at least 20 years (or, if the pension is granted before 31 December 2024, with less pensionable service period required for granting the old-age pension), the amount of the minimum old-age pension cannot be less than226.80 euros (189 x 1.2), for persons with disabilities since childhood -271.20euros (226 x 1.2);
• 21 and over, the minimum old-age pension is determined by increasing it by3.78 euros for each year of pensionable service, and for the persons with disabilities since childhood by 4.52euros for each year of pensionable service.
